Elgin Schmidt, Sr.

Elgin A. Schmidt Sr. (aka) “Gene” or “Smitty” went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 28th 2012 at the age of 80. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 9 am to 7 pm with family receiving friends 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 10 am at Tres Hewell Mortuary with Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. Interment will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery. He was born on August 11, 1931 to Fritz Schmidt and Louise Jahns Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother- in- law, three brothers, three sisters and son-in-law, Pat Trost. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired from Mission Valley Mills West Point Pepperell after 35 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Madelyn E. Schmidt; six children and their spouses, Dolores (Lorrie) Corley and husband Robert, Elgin (Butch) Schmidt, Jr., Linda Batot and husband John, Karen Tumlinson and husband Mike, Michael (Mike) Schmidt and wife DeLinda, and Geralyn Zunker and husband David; one sister, Shirley Malone and husband Stanley; two brothers, Clinton Schmidt and wife Elouyease and Charles Schmidt and wife Betty; sister-in-laws, Betty Schmidt, Judy Schmidt and Irene Friesenhahn; thirteen grandchildren, Renee Billings, Dawn White, Wade Trost, Kerry Schmidt, Amy Strauch, Chad Gann, Michael Tumlinson, Jr., Kristina Kissiar, Kourtney Tumlinson, Kandice Cruise, Shawn Schmidt, Kelly Cowey, Kody Schmidt; thirteen great-grandchildren, five step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
