Margaret Terry Gingrich McGrew, of Seguin, passed away on June 26, 2013.
Meg was born July 29, 1957, in Seguin, TX, to Thomas Hunt Terry, Jr. and Mildred Traeger Terry. She grew up in town, and in her childhood she enjoyed many happy adventures among her three siblings, with her parents and grandparents, at her summer camp, and along the Guadalupe River. She graduated from SHS in 1975 and went to The University of Texas, where she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She later completed her studies at Sam Houston State University. In 1977 she married Paul Gingrich, also of Seguin, with whom she remained married until his death in 2002. The two lived in Houston, where Meg had a brief career as a home economics teacher until she gave birth to her first son in 1980. She and Paul resettled in Seguin, where she had two more sons and took on a successful career as mother, crafter, handywoman, and much more. In 2005 she married Mike McGrew, with whom she has enjoyed eight years of traveling, dog-loving, and relaxation at their home on the river.
Meg was never without a project or a job, and she was renowned for her efficiency in such activities as weed-pulling and rock-hauling. It was for such tendencies that she was occasionally known as “the bulldog.” Yet at the same time she was a woman of remarkable gentleness and effortless grace—strong but not hard, and always amenable to others. She was an illuminating presence for all around her, especially for anyone who witnessed her in moments of uncontrollable laughter. Above all, Meg was defined by her absolute selflessness. Her life was not about creating something for herself, but about constantly creating something for others. Her pleasures and her interests were the pleasures and the interests of those others, her loved ones.
Preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Paul Gingrich. Survived by her husband, Mike McGrew, her sister, Molly Kelley, and her brothers, Hunt Terry and wife Ann and Tim Terry and wife Mary; her children, Jack Gingrich, David Gingrich and wife Amy, Brian Gingrich, Aaron McGrew and wife Haley, Chris McGrew and wife Lynn, Austin McGrew, and Abby McGrew; grandchildren Emma Gingrich, Landon McGrew, Reid McGrew, and Micah McGrew; sister-in-law, Sandra Gingrich Hollamon and husband Del Schlueter; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
