Adela Ruth (May) Hairr, age 85, of Seguin passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014. She was preceded in death by parents Lonnie and Elma May, brother Arthur May, former husband Roy Hairr, and infant son Douglas Hairr.
Known to many as "Del", she was born in Gonzales, Texas on June 15, 1929 to the late Lonnie and Elma May. Del moved to Seguin as a young child and graduated from Seguin High School in 1947. She married the late Roy Hairr and traveled the world with him during his Air Force career. Del and her family returned to Seguin in 1972. She retired from Texas Lutheran (College) University after working for 22 years in the Church Relations Division. Working with many Lutheran Ministers and college students was very rewarding to her and she kept in touch with several of the Ministers through her retirement years.
Del is survived by sister Dorothy Calentine of Seguin who tirelessly cared for her during her last months. She is also survived by children Michael Hairr and wife Jan of Chester, SC, Patricia Groves and husband Mark of Houston, Randy Hairr and wife Amy of The Woodlands, and Kathryn Czarnecka of Moore, OK. Del was very proud of her seven beautiful grandchildren Stephanie Doyle, Allison Cleveland and husband Andy, Mitchell Berryhill, Kaitlin Czarnecka, Amy Groves, Jayden Hairr, and Peyton Hairr. She was blessed with two great grandchildren, Emilee Doyle and Ethan Cleveland. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Minnesota and North Carolina. Del's family was her pride and joy. She took pleasure and happiness in each of their accomplishments, and there were many.
A memorial service will be held at Cross Church, 814 N. Bauer St., on Saturday, September 13 at Eleven O'Clock with Pastor Jim Price presiding and special tribute by Pastor Stan Meyer. A reception will follow at the Silver Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Cross Church Scholarship Fund, 814 N.
