Obituary

Alan Purdon passed away on April 2, 2008 at the age of 88 in Seguin. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Dorothy Glenn Cobb Purdon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Cleveland A. and Maude Willyard Purdon and James his only brother. Alan was born in Lisbon North Dakota and attended the University in Grand Forks, North Dakota graduating in 1941 with an ROTC Commission. He was called to active duty on July 1, 1941 with the 23rd Infantry, 2nd Division at Fort Sam Houston. In 1943 he transferred to the Army Air Corp for pilot training ultimately flying weather recon missions out of Okinawa and Tokyo, Japan. He was recalled in the Korean War for two years and stationed in Tokyo. His civilian career was in the mortgage banking industry for 30 years and several years in the real estate business. Other interests were hunting, fishing, and raising cattle on a small farm near Nixon Texas. He was a member of the Sunrise Lions Club in Seguin and the Sertoma Club in Houston and Austin. He was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Seguin. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nixon Cemetery in Nixon, Texas. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Seguin with Rev. Dr. Carl McCauley officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 305 N. King Street, Seguin, Texas, 78155 or to the Sunrise Lions Club, P. O. Box 564, Seguin, Texas, 78156.
