Obituary

Albert "Curly" Grimm, age 93, of Seguin, passed away on May 7, 2017. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Paul Cannon officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Dugger Cemetery. Curly was born on September 10, 1923 in Marion, Texas to Bruno and Alma (Schmoekel) Grimm. Drafted into the United States Army in 1943, he was taken as a prisoner of war at Anzio, Italy, and was held captive for 514 days. Having badly frostbitten feet from this ordeal, they remained cold and numb for the rest of his life. Upon his release from the war prison, the message of his homecoming was received by a young CB operator, Lyndon B. Johnson, and passed it on to Curly's wife, Hilda. While in the Army, he received the Bronze Star and many medals: Combat Infantry, Good Conduct, American Campaign, European/African/Middle Eastern Campaign, WWII Victory medal, Rifle Marksman, Honorable Service, and Prisoner of War. Curly was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Doug Herrle Chapter 61 in Seguin, American Legion H U Wood Post 245 in Seguin, Veterans of Foreign War Post 8456 in Geronimo and Seguin Order of the Sons of Hermann Lodge #37. He also rode in the Sheriff's Posse, raised hogs and cattle, did butchering at the old Guadalupe Locker Plant for 25 years, and later worked in the Wuest's Grocery downtown as the market manager. He also worked for Guadalupe County in the Road and Heavy Construction division as Foreman. For several years he owned and operated the Exxon Station on West Court Street. In his "spare time" he loved to hunt and dance. Curly was the most- mild mannered person you could ever meet, and never said a harsh word about any one. Friends and family knew too well, that he had a subtle sense of humor. He recently made the comment to someone as they were leaving, "See you in the funny papers!" to which he unnecessarily apologized for that statement the next day. So, dear Dad and Grandpa, we'll "see you in the funny papers", too, someday. Curly is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Hilda, son Leonard Grimm, daughter Donna Grimm Due and four sisters and one brother. Survivors include his son, Kenneth Grimm and friend Annette; grandchildren, Jerry Grimm, Byron Grimm, Jannette Pardo and husband Lorenzo; great-granddaughter, Morgan Grimm; great-grandsons, Preston Pardo and Ethan Grimm; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
