Pastor Alfred W. Doerfler, age 95 of Seguin, passed through death into eternal life on February 12, 2010. Visitation will begin Wednesday, February 17, 2010 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. – 7p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor William Lange, Pastor Tim Bauerkemper and Pastor Ron Birk officiating. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Pastor Doerfler was born August 13, 1914 in Pflugerville to John Gottlieb and Mary Wuthrich Doerfler. He attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin; University of Texas in Austin; and received his BA degree from Wartburg College, Waverly, IA. He taught school in Richland, Travis County and Macedonia, Williamson County. He received his Masters of Divinity degree from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, IA. For 62 years, he was married to his wonderful partner in ministry, Rosa Lee. As an ordained Lutheran pastor, Alfred served the congregations at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsville, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason, Christ Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi, Faith Lutheran Church in Bellaire, and St. John's Lutheran Church in Denhawken. He has been a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Seguin since his retirement from ordained ministry. He was also active in many areas of the Lutheran church's work and mission, first as a chairman of the Old Southern District Bible Camp when Camp Chrysalis was purchased; Grace Lutheran Sanitarium and Hospital in San Antonio; chairman of the old Area IV Stewardship Committee; various district committees of stewardship, youth, parish education, research and social action. He also was in the Texas semi-pro baseball league, Richland Eagles, where he was later inducted into the Hall of Fame. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee; brothers, Jack, B.O. (Bernie), Arthur and Edward Doerfler; sisters, Alberta Kern, Clara Doerfler, Marie Weiss; sons-in-law, Byron Hanna and Jerry Boemer and grandson, Jeffrey Boemer. Survivors include his children, Kathy Pancoast and husband Rev. Elliott Pancoast, Ruth Ann Hanna, Christine Brown and husband Gene, David Doerfler and wife Cindy and Valerie Doerfler; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
