Obituary

Alfred Herrmann Koebig, age 85 of Seguin, passed away on May 23, 2011. The memorial service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Seguin with Rev. Dr. Carl McCauley officiating. A reception will follow in Karrick Hall. Private interment will be held at a later date in the San Marcos City Cemetery. Al was born on July 1, 1925 in Geronimo, Texas to Alfred Koebig and Lilly Herrmann Koebig. He was a member of the Seguin High School Class of 1942 and he attended Schreiner College and the University of Texas at Austin. Al began his career in the insurance business where he owned and operated an insurance agency. He was past president of the Seguin Lions Club and past president of the Seguin/ Guadalupe County Chamber of Commerce. He was elected mayor of Seguin in 1966 and proudly served in that capacity until 1982. He served on the Texas Municipal League Board for most of his political career and in 1971 was president of the board. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Anne Williams Koebig; children, Anne Koebig Beatty and husband Bruce, and Alfred Koebig II and wife Sharon Schmidt Koebig; grandchildren, Jared Reed Beatty and wife Elizabeth, Hilton Dare Koebig and Trevor Blake Koebig; several cousins and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 870, Seguin, Texas, 78156, The Christian Cupboard, 516 N. Camp, Seguin, Texas, 78155 or Guadalupe Regional Hospice, 1215 E. Court Street, Seguin, Texas, 78155 or the charity of one's choice.
