Obituary

Alice Maria Maher Stoeltje, age 77, was born on November 30, 1933 in New Orleans, Louisiana and went to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2011. She was preceded in death by parents Robert and Sarah (Selby) Maher, siblings Robert Maher, Katherine Peri, James Maher, Evelyn Lestelle, Mary Tiedemann, Theresa Maher, Agnes Montreuil and John Maher. A graduate of Redemptorist High School in New Orleans, Alice was an executive secretary for Dietzgen Drafting Company prior to marrying Robert Stoeltje of Poth, Texas. Alice then spent 25 years traveling with her husband, a U.S. Coast Guard Search & Rescue pilot, before making their permanent home in Seguin, Texas in 1981. Alice worked for Guadalupe County tax assessor and the appraisal district until her retirement. Alice was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church who volunteered for many years with the Christian Cupboard. Alice was an avid bridge player, voracious reader and spirited Rebublican. She is survived by Robert, her husband of 53 years, her 5 Children, Mark Stoeltje of San Antonio, Cathy Horvath of Seguin, Lori Evans of San Antonio, Amy Randolph of Carmichaels, PA. and Matthew Stoeltje of Kuwait, as well as 7 grandchildren, Kelly Larrieu, Nicole Larrieu, Sam Stoeltje, Eli Lay, James Stoeltje, Ryan Horvath and Pilar Randolph, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Windsor Nursing & Rehabilitation and Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. The family would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to Carol Lee, Diana Irwin, and all the caring, dedicated staff of Guadalupe Regional Hospice, as well as to Mona Pantoja, Yolanda Solano, Gloria Flores and Gloria Castellon, who cared for her at home in her final days under the guidance of Guadalupe Regional Hospice. A rosary will be recited on Friday, July 8, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Seguin followed by visitation with the family until 11:00 a.m. at which time the Mass of Christian Burial will begin. Interment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Sam Stoeltje, Eli Lay, James Stoeltje, Ryan Horvath, Peter Horvath and Greg Peri.
