Obituary

Allen Gene Dagel, born in Wichita, Kansas April 12, 1927, son of Ruth Pitts Dagel and Jessa H. Dagel died at home on March 29, 2009 in Seguin, Texas. Gene was owner of the Dagel Company, furniture manufacturer, from 1968 until 1992. He was a graduate of Kansas University, veteran of the U.S. Navy, member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Rotary-President in 1974, the Chordsmen of San Antonio, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church- former vestry warden and lifelong choir member, and a Mason, Knights Templar. He was a pilot and enjoyed sailing. He was named Downtowner of the Year for Seguin in 2002. Gene married Lou Tomlinson in 1951, and they moved to San Antonio, where he was a salesman for Wm. Volker Co. They purchased the factory in Seguin from George Faber in 1968 and maintained a showroom in the Dallas World Trade Center until 1992. Gene was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Van and Vaughn. He is survived by his wife, Lou; daughter, Dr. Gena D. Tabery and husband, Ron; sons, Tomlinson J. Dagel and Karl M. Dagel and wife, Patty. Gene's beloved grandchildren are Peter and Matthew Caponi, Julius and Cyrus Tabery and wife, Julia; Karen K. Dagel; Alex, Nicholas and Katie Dagel and great-grandchild, Sophia Tabery. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Douglas Hutchings officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Andrew's Church, Rotary Foundation or the Missionary Society of San Miguel, c/o the Reverend Tom Bruns.
