Anthony P. Cantu, beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2008 at age 78. Mr. Cantu will lie in state beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Tres Hewell Mortuary with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Tres Hewell Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Graveside services and interment will follow with military honors in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Anthony was a joyful, optimistic person of strong faith. He spent his life providing for his family as a prominent business owner until retirement. He spent his remaining years enjoying his family and traveling. He served several years of his life as a member of the Saint James Parish Council and School Board. Anthony was born on February 23, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas to William R. and Marina Juarez Cantu. His parents and five brothers preceded him in death. Anthony is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia "Pat" Cantu; daughters, Donna Fryer and husband Bryan, Cheryle New and husband Phillip, Linda Kay and husband Augie, Sandra Valdez and husband Alex and Tricia Cantu Mayo; grandchildren, Eric Fryer and wife Tiffany, Tom Fryer and wife Keri, Greg Fryer and wife Mindy, Jason New and fiance Stephanie, Alicia Cook and husband Scotty, Lyndsay New, Chrissy Lara and husband Randy , Anthony Miller and wife Daphne, William, James and Alexis Valdez, Stephanie Woodlee and husband Justin, and Keith Mayo; step-grandchildren, Anthony Todd and wife Jessica and Adrianne Valdez; great grandchildren, Tyler, Kayla, Zachary, Brittany and Myah Lara, Noah Soukup, Jaydin Miller and Klayre Cook; step-great grandchildren, Carson and Mollie Todd and one sister and one brother; one aunt; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
