Obituary

A celebration for the life of Arline Koepsel MyCue will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, 710 N. Austin Street, Seguin. Arline was born on September 8, 1918 in a farmhouse near McQueeney, daughter of Henry and Della Koepsel.
A life filled with raising a family and nurturing children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, didn't stop Arline from being active in the life of her church and community. She loved God, her family, and her church. As a young woman growing up, she was active in school sports and activities in the German community of McQueeney.
After high school graduation she began work at Duke and Ayres, the local 5 & 10 Cent store on Austin Street. It was at the candy counter where she met a yankee, motorcycle rider from Minnesota, Roger MyCue. Roger's Pastor Baenziger in Minnesota, suggested Roger could find carpentry work in a warmer climate in Seguin. Arline and Roger were married in 1938 and spent their honeymoon in Minnesota. Six children were born over a 19 year period followed by 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
A committed Christian, Arline especially enjoyed participating in Seguin's First United Methodist Church all her life. During her children's' school years, Arline was active in Cub Scouts, PTA, and as a SHS band parent. Long time membership in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Seguin Fire Department, United Methodist Women (Esther Circle), and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas were a part of her life. She enjoyed shopping with family members and as a life-long resident of Guadalupe County, her weekly visits to Wal-Mart became a social event, visiting with all those whom she encountered in the local store. Two cruises and a motorcycle ride were part of her fun activities in her 90+ years.
Arline was predeceased by husband Roger in 2001, her parents and a sister, Maybelle. Survivors include her 6 children who were at her bedside in her final hours: Judy (Jimmie) Johnson, Jerry (Carol) MyCue, Dickie, Scotty (Jacque), Merry (Rick) Livingston-Mayfield, and Teri (John) Nash. Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer, Jeffrey, Brent, Janna, Arden, Merrick, Ferris, Brooke, Ryan, Jordan, Andy, Amanda, "Bubba", and Amy. The third generation survivors include great-grandchildren Jaymes, Constance, Charlie, Cecilia, Jude, Darren, Mason, Jaxon, Ben, Emerson, Gwendolyn, Easton, Slayde, Emily, Tilden, Jacob, Jade, Casen, Whitley, and Eliot Grace. Surviving are special friends Pete and Judy Campbell, Clara Linebarger, and many cousins. Also included are three nieces, Helen Ann, Lynne, Cathy and a great niece, Daveela, and great nephew Justin plus numerous friends who will remember her fondly.
The family would like to thank GVNC and GRMC for professional and loving care of Arline during her last eighteen months, and to Dr. Thomas Raetzsch who was her primary for the past few decades.
Pall bearers are Arline's first-born grandsons: Jeffrey Johnson, Brent MyCue, Merrick MyCue, Ryan MyCue, Andy Nash, and Jordan Mayfield. Honorary pall bearers are Ferris MyCue, John Nash IV, Jesse Henderson, Robert Dahlke, and Darius Rice. Other honorary pall bearers are United Methodist Women (Esther Circle), Ladies Auxiliary Seguin Fire Department, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Paulist Class of First United Methodist Church.
A reception back at the church will follow after the graveside service at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 710 N. Austin St., Seguin, TX 78155.
Viewing and visitation will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary at 165 Tor Drive, Seguin on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 P.M.
