Obituary

August "Stump" Herman Pfannstiel, age 89 of Marion, passed away on October 12, 2011. Visitation will held on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 15, 2011at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Marion with Pastor James Witschorke officiating. Interment with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H U Wood Post #245 of Seguin will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Stump was born on February 25, 1922 in Marion Texas to Alwin and Hilda Winkelmann Pfannstiel. He graduated from Marion High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II and retired from Randolph Air Force Base Civil Service after 35 years. He proudly served as Mayor of Marion for eight years and as Marion's Fire Chief for several years. He was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church, a member of the American Legion H U Wood Post 245 and a former member of the Board of Directors for Hochheim Prairie Insurance. He served as past District President of the Guadalupe Fire and Fire Marshall Association of Texas. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Gloria Helmke Pfannstiel, his son Samuel (Sammy) Pfannstiel, and his parents. Survivors include his children, William Pfannstiel and wife Nell, Timothy Pfannstiel, and Holly Garza and husband Rene; grandchildren, Priscilla Vela and husband Joey, Deana Pfannstiel, Tray Garza; great-grandchildren, Le Ana Pfannstiel and Hunter Vela. Sister-in-law, Jewel Koepp and husband Ewald; caregivers, Gloria Carranza, Rose Martinez and Marie Friesenhahn; a niece, several nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 68, Marion, Texas, 78124.
