Barbara Batey

Barbara Ann Batey, age 86, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at her home. She was born in Seguin, Texas to the late Edwin and Edna Heideke on March 7, 1940.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert E. Batey, brother, Daniel Heideke, and sister, Geraldine Heideke.

Barbara was a talented seamstress, designer, and creator who found joy in making beautiful things for others. Barbara’s talents were showcased for all to enjoy, especially around Christmas time. What began as a single village house, built by her father for the Seguin State Bank’s annual Christmas Village, grew into a beloved local attraction, with Barbara, her brother Daniel, and her sister-in-law June Heideke helping bring the village to life.

She also worked at Gift and Gourmet, where she found immense joy assisting shoppers find the perfect treasure.

Barbara was a faithful member of Cross Church in Seguin, where she especially enjoyed decorating the fellowship hall for many special occasions. She also generously gave her time to others, volunteering for nearly ten years at the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center’s central desk.

Barbara is survived by her three children, Bobbie (Douglas) Koepp, Julie Culbreth, and Robin (Gary) Sutton; five grandchildren, Amber (Brian) Hoberg, Derek Koepp, Kam (Juaquin) Moya Culbreth, Sable (Matt) Kitchen, and Brooklyn Sutton; and six great grandchildren, Aubrey, Brynleigh, Cambree, Drew, Emerson Hoberg, and Ivy Kitchen; and one great-grand-dog, Merle Robert.

Barbara had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members, and many friends.

A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Cross Church with the Reverend Jim Price officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Private interment will be held at a later date in the Nockenut Cemetery in Wilson County.
