Obituary

Barbara Jean Doll passed away after a lengthy illness at her residence in Seguin, Texas on December 3, 2011 at the age of 82. Barb was born May 22, 1929, the daughter of Almon and Lela Mae Nelson in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Barb and her six siblings: Almon, Donald, Geraldine, Maxine, Phyllis and Richard were raised in the city of Kalamazoo. Barb was employed by the Kalamazoo State Hospital for thirty years, retiring in 1983. After leaving her nursing career Barb and her husband Bob were owners of WAOP, an AM-FM radio station in Otsego, Michigan. Later, Barb assisted Bob creating and publishing the weekly "Small Market Radio Newsletter" along with Bob's radio consulting business. In 1992 Barb and Bob moved to Seguin, Texas and continued to provide services to the radio industry. Barb was an active member of the Unity Church of San Marcos, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Seguin Police Auxiliary, the Red Hat Ladies of Seguin, and was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Almon and Lela Saye Nelson, her first husband Ivan L. Blowers, her second husband and second love of her life Robert (Bob) Doll, her sister Maxine Miller, and brothers Donald Nelson, Richard Nelson and Almon Nelson. Barbara is survived by her sisters Phyllis (Jack) Hafer and Geraldine (Ray) Ogden; Children: Ivan (Grace) Blowers, Michelle (William) Johnson, David (Patricia) Blowers, Diana (Greg) Morris, Robert (Ronny) Doll and Dee Anne (Ed) Cohen; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Special thanks are reserved to granddaughter Amanda Matthews and caregiver Mary Sifuentes who were at Barbara's side throughout her battle with cancer, giving her loving care throughout her illness. A memorial service was held on January 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Unity of San Marcos with Spiritual Leader Don Seiler officiating. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at 2:00 P M at the Unity of Kalamazoo, 1204 Whites Road, with Rev. Joslyn Mason officiating.
