Obituary

Barbara Jean McCulloch was born to E. J. and Irene Richey on December 31, 1944, in Poteet, Texas. She was the only daughter in a family with five sons, Daryl, Leon, Billy, Bobby, and Gayle. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 23, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones.

The sum of a life is never measured in dates or events, but rather by what remains after the last breath. Here are a few things that remain. A strong faith in Jesus, which is even now being passed to the fourth and fifth generations. A husband who was loved and supported through years of entrepreneurship, whether as a business owner, pastor, or rancher. Four daughters with the sweetness of her smile, but a fierceness in their eyes that says, "Think before you speak." Grandchildren who were loved unconditionally and a great-granddaughter who was adored.

She was an unquestionable example of grace and faithfulness. She was both firm and gentle. It was her quiet spirit and sweet smile that drew people to her. She was always a lady. She loved children, which can be testified to by her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews, and the many children she taught in Sunday school. Yet those who knew her would never mistake her gentleness for weakness. She was strong, capable, and undeterred.

And finally, we will cherish the little things she loved, like coffee and her Bible in the mornings, purple being her favorite color, sharing her potato salad recipe, and her weekly ritual of deep-cleaning the house (like we might need to host a party in the closet!).

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Henry McCulloch, Jr.; four daughters, Sheryl Carlson (Gary), Deanna Scoma (Anthony), Kathryn Woodard (Jody), and Lavenia Walkup (Kirsten); nine grandchildren, Gary Carlson Jr. (Analyssa), Sara Carlson-Campbell (Kenan), Hunter Walkup, Anika Scoma, Kaye Lynn Carlson, Wes Woodard, Ari Scoma, Kirsten Walkup, and Kyle Woodard; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Carlson.

The pallbearers will be Gary Carlson Jr., Hunter Walkup, Wes Woodard, Ari Scoma, Kyle Woodard, Kenan Campbell
