Bennie Wells Kaulfus, age 77 of Seguin, passed away on May 8, 2017. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the St. James Family Center. Private burial will be held later at St. James Catholic Cemetery. Bennie was born on March 21, 1940 in Rosebud, Texas to Bennie Edward and Dell (Wells) Kaulfus. Bennie attended Southwest Texas State University, where he met and married the love of his life, Sue Meyer. Bennie received both his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Education, and after the couple married in 1964, they moved to Seguin where he taught Industrial Arts at Mary B. Erskine, Ball, and A.J. Briesemeister . Bennie then received his certificate in counseling and spent the next 15 years at Navarro. Bennie then moved to Seguin High School, working there for 5 years, until he was called to Del Valley High School, where he retired in 2000. He came out of retirement and worked first at Marion High School, then Gonzales High School until his official retirement in 2005. Outside of school, Bennie was very active; he sold real estate and owned rental properties, was a land surveyor, and built fences. Bennie also had a great love of music, which he attributed to his cousin, Hank Thompson. Bennie played guitar for the Dottsy and Dave Band when they first formed. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as the Seguin Evening Lions Club, serving as President and Secretary for a number of years. He was the current President of the Seguin Noon Lions Club. Bennie is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; his children, John David Kaulfus and wife, Janis; Jack Sidney Kaulfus and wife, Bianca Garza; grandchildren, Max and Julian Chee-Garza, as well as numerous loving friends.
