Obituary

Betty Jane Adcock Markgraf, age 80 of Schertz, formerly of Alice and Stockdale, passed away on July 7, 2023.  Betty was born on April 16, 1943, in Wilson County, Texas, to Norma (Johnston) and Calvin Adcock. Betty will be remembered as a 1961 graduate of Stockdale High School.

Betty and Kenneth raised their family in Alice where they were actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Alice.  For over 50 years, Betty volunteered and worked at Mother's Day Out.  She faithfully contributed favorite recipes to each of the Church Cook Books as new editions were published.  She was known as the Casserole Queen.  Being outdoors, watering her plants, feeding birds and, feeding squirrels with her dog Hunny were some of her favorite things.  Bunco with friends and shopping were also at the top of her list, especially thrift shopping.  Her most precious time was spent with her family and friends.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Kenneth Markgraf, grandson, Jace Markgraf, her parents, her sister, Norma Joyce Hastings, brothers, Calvin F. (Sonny) Adcock, and Joe Adcock, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Schulze, Doug Heinemeyer, and Bobby Blanch.

Survivors include her children, Glenn Markgraf and wife Jodi; Steven Markgraf and wife Marty, Tammy Andersen, and husband Eric; grandchildren, Kye Markgraf, Blake Markgraf, Brad Markgraf and wife Melissa, Claudia Markgraf, Chelsea Andersen, and Callie Andersen and, husband Preston Gleaton; great-granddaughter, Flora Markgraf; sisters, Ellen Blanch, Alice Heinemeyer, and Viola Blanch and husband, Hugh; sister-in-law, Linda Adcock; brother-in-law, Bobby J. Hastings, and wife, Jo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Union Valley Baptist Church in Union Valley with Pastor Deric Zies officiating.   Interment will follow in the Nockenut Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Markgraf, Bob Koricanek, Bubba Hastings, Rick Hastings, Michael Schulze, Daniel Schulze, Eric Schulze, and David Stone.
