“Jim” Langton Carroll, U.S. Army, Ret.
October 22, 1931 – February 27, 2025
Brigadier General James "Jim" Langton Carroll (US Army, Ret.), of Seguin, Texas, passed away on February 27, 2025 at age 93. He was born on October 22, 1931 in College Station, Texas, to Colonel James Vincent and Mary (nee Langton) Carroll. Jim grew up in the Army, and he graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in New Jersey, after evacuating from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii during World War II.
In 1950, he entered the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated as a 1st Lieutenant in 1954. He served in Italy and the United States in the 1950s. In 1957, he protected the Little Rock Nine at Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. After departing from active duty, he served in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves. He ultimately retired from the Army Reserves in 1984 in the rank of Brigadier General. He served his country honorably and with pride.
He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1963. After he departed from active duty service, he worked at Southwestern Bell through 1969 when he joined Contel Telephone Company. He retired from Contel Phone Company in 1990 as an Executive Vice President and President of Telephone Operations.
He married Susannah Myers on December 4, 1954 in Little Rock, Arkansas with whom he had 3 daughters. Jim cherished his family, and he showered his spouses, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love and care.
Jim was a devout Catholic whose faith guided him in all things in life. He loved to read and discuss politics. He was an active member and President of the Rotary Club in Victoria, TX.
Jim will be remembered by his family for his sense of humor, story telling, love of sports and outdoors, and his generosity. Memories of skeet shooting, boating, swimming, and horseback riding with him will be cherished.
Jim is preceded in death by his wives, Susannah Myers Carroll and Wilma "Jo" Oakley Carroll; his daughter, Elizabeth Mary "Camile" Carroll McLaughlin; his parents, James Vincent Carroll and Mary Langton Carroll; his sisters, Patricia Carroll Kirby and Mary Carroll Nelson.
Survivors include his loving wife Florence "Flo" Carroll; daughters, Susannah Card and Francesca Dutton; grandchildren, Randy (Kathleen) Card, Todd (Kate) Card, Katherine Dutton, Sarah (Matt) Scheu, and Victoria (John) Worlow; and 8 great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at Tres Hewell Mortuary on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 5 p.m. followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will conclude at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Seguin. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. A reception will follow and be announced.
Serving as pallbearers will be Randall Card, Todd Card, Matthew Scheu, John Worlow, Jack Boothe, and Abel Reyes. Military members will serve as pallbearers at Fort Sam Houston.
