Billy Gordon Owens, age 84 of Seguin, passed away on July 4, 2014. Visitation will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary on Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. C. E. (Bubba) Collins and Rev. James Engelmann officiating and under the auspices of Seguin Chapter # 555 Order of the Eastern Star, United States Air Force and the Guadalupe DAV Chapter 61. A reception will follow at the Guadalupe Masonic Lodge #109. Graveside services and interment under the auspices of the Masons will follow in the Engelmann Family Cemetery in Selma at 2:00 p.m. Billy was born on November 11, 1929 in Somerset, Texas to Allen Randolph and Delia (Harris) Owens. He graduated from A. C. Jones High School in Beeville, Texas in 1948. He served in the Army and Air Force (Engineers) from 1949-1953 during the Korean Conflict. Billy worked for Whitey Cementers in Three Rivers until 1957. In 1958 he worked in San Antonio for Romano Equipment as a diesel mechanic and welder and there he helped build Canyon Dam. On December 6, 1958 he married Ruth Engelmann in San Antonio. In 1962 he went to work for H & J Drilling Co., as a diesel mechanic and welder for 21 years. He also worked for Roland Blumberg in the late 80s and early 90s. He went to work for Tractor Supply Co. in 1996 until 2007. He is a 59 year member of the Guadalupe Masonic Lodge # 109 A. F. & A.M., having received his 50 year pin in February 2005. He served as Worshipful Master in 1993 -94 of Guadalupe Masonic Lodge and served as Most Excellent High Priest of Seguin Chapter #344 in 1992. He served as thrice Illustrious Master of Council #281 in 1993. He also served as District Deputy Grand Master of Grand Council in 1996. Other memberships included San Marcos Commandry #56, New Braunfels Masonic Lodge # 1109. He served as District Deputy Grand High Priest at Grand Royal Arch Chapter in 1998-99. He was awarded the Golden Trowel Award of the Masonic Order in 1998. He was elected Worshipful Master of the Kingsbury Masonic Lodge #887 A. F. & A. M. from 2008-09. He was also a member of the Gonzales Masonic Lodge #30 and the Seguin Chapter # 555 Order of the Eastern Star. Billy was a member of Abundant Grace Christian Fellowship in New Braunfels, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Leo Owens and his sister-in-law, Mary Engelmann. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth Engelmann Owens; special cousin, Nell Mitchell and husband Willy Pfannstiel; brothers-in-law, Walter Engelmann, Jr. and wife Brenda and James Engelmann and wife Glenda; sister-in-law, Ruby Owens; nieces, Tracy Engelmann, Lisa Johnson, Shannon Lewis and husband Curtis, Tammy Herrera and husband Ed.; nephews, Douglas Engelmann and wife Norma, Talbert Engelmann and Todd Engelmann and wife Julie and many loving friends. Billy's masonic brothers will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Abundant Grace Christian Fellowship, the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital, Guadalupe DAV Chapter # 61 or charity of one's choice.
