Billy Ray Springs, of Seguin, passed to his eternal home on October 11, 2014 at the age of 72. He was born on June 5, 1942 to Allen and Gracie Wright Springs in Seguin, Texas. Billy graduated from Seguin High School in 1960 and business college in Austin, Texas. He married Jolene Sowders November 17, 1962 and two years later was blessed with daughter, Sharon Kaye Springs. Billy was a man of many talents. He began his business career as Office Manager for the City of Seguin, during the term of Mayor Al Koebig. Billy installed the first computer system for City Hall, working many hours to keep the departments up and running. After ten years success with the City, he began his own business building and remodeling homes in Seguin. He was a meticulous carpenter and enjoyed the fine details of the finish work and cabinetry. His love of animals and birds could be seen throughout his life. He began raising horses, and cattle during childhood. He added parakeets and cockatiels which he sold to retail shops. He later opened his own grooming and boarding kennel for dogs. He began breeding and showing basset hounds and toy poodles throughout Texas and many southern states, finishing fifteen AKC champions. Throughout his life he enjoyed deer hunting in the hill country and surrounding area. He returned to farming and ranching full time as he cared for his parents in their declining years and continued until February of this year. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Gracie Wright Springs. Billy is survived by his wife, Jolene, of almost 53 years, his daughter Sharon Springs Illhardt, son in law Alan Drew Illhardt, and grandson Brandon Alan Illhardt, numerous cousins and wonderful friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Elder Joseph Weyel officiating. Interment will follow in Dugger Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Weyel, Paul Soechting, Bobby Cox, Chris Seay, Eddie Jo Wright and Robert Cockrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Illhardt, Brandon Illhardt and Jesse Atzger. Memorial contributions may be made to the Luling Primitive Baptist Church, 395 Elm Street, Luling, Texas 78648, to Dugger Cemetery c/o Sharon Herbold, 3106 Elm Creek Rd, Seguin, Texas 78155 or the charity of your choice.
