Obituary

Carla "Lala" Brodt Mergele, age 69 of Seguin, passed away on January 6, 2017. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Texas Agricultural Education and Heritage Center (Red Barn) with Rev. Jeremy Roy and Pastor Jerry Kidd officiating. Carla was born on September 2, 1947 in Seguin to Harold and Clydie (Hester) Brodt. Carla was a member of the Seguin High School class of 1965. She was also a member of the American Legion HU Wood Post 245 Auxiliary, a founding member of the Luling Cowboy Bible Church in 1997, the Seguin Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, and the Seguin Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association. A native of Seguin, many people knew Carla and her husband Richard, as the owners of Seguin Gun and Pawn, but everyone knew her as the most selfless, loving, and sweetest person in town. She loved to love people; she was a devoted caregiver to many people, so much so that she kept an ongoing prayer list in her Bible so that she could pray for them daily on her sunrise and sunset walks. She even kept a separate calendar at home just for birthdays and anniversaries, so that she could send them cards, even when she was battling cancer. Carla also loved animals, having many of her dogs, horses, and pygmy goats follow her on her walks. But, the ones whom Carla loved more than all, were her family. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend one could hope to have. Carla was devoted to God and Jesus' light shone brightly through her. She is preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Gus Mergele; and brother-in-law, Jan Mergele. Carla is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Mergele; her loving sons, Clint Mergele and wife, Mistty, Logan Mergele and wife, Amber; grandchildren, Elliott, Hadley, Harper, and Haze Mergele; sisters, Betty Lee Reiley and husband, Jimmy, Barbie Von Minden and husband, Richard, Dottsy Dwyer and husband, Robin, and Toni Winters; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Mergele, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family members and many, many, friends.
