Catherine Frances Pankau, age 96 of Seguin, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2012. Holy Rosary will be recited at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery. Catherine was born on February 12, 1916 in Guadalupe County (Eden Community) to Frank and Cecelia Walzem Pankau. Catherine's father, Frank, immigrated to the United States from Prussia, Germany in 1883 at the age of 4 with his parents, Paul and Marie Kniewel Pankau. After marrying Cecilia Walzem in 1907, they purchased property and raised their family on a farm located on Eden Road in Seguin. It was here that Catherine was born. Catherine's siblings included, Helen, Frieda, Edna, Cecelia, Frank, Jr. and Joseph Pankau. During World War II, Catherine and her sister, Frieda moved to San Antonio, Texas. They found employment with the O'Krent-Stowers Company where they worked as seamstresses. During that time, they developed many close friendships that remained strong throughout the years. Catherine devoted her life to her serving the Lord, caring for her family and enjoying visits from her many, lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters. Survivors include her cousins, Dorothy Engelken and husband Edward, Bernice Weinheimer and husband Kerwin, Milton Pankau and wife Patricia, and Melvin Pankau and wife, Betty, and all their families. Catherine and her family are remembered as being honest and hard-working as well as kind and courteous to others. The Pankau family members were devout Catholics and lifelong members of St. James Catholic Church in Seguin. Catherine will be missed dearly but we know that she has been joyfully reunited with her family and friends in heaven. Serving as pallbearers will be Melvin Pankau, Kerwin Weinheimer, Wes Mondin, John Talamantez, Reagan Luensmann, and Hunter Luensmann.
