Obituary

Cathy Hajek, age 61 of Seguin, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family, on June 27, 2019. Cathy was born on October 24, 1957 in Hallettsville, TX to Victor and Junell (Zimmerman) Strakos. Cathy was the long-time daycare director at St. John Lutheran in Marion for 34 years, she adored her job and caring for children. She was also an active member of St. James Catholic Church where she served in many capacities, including the Catholic Daughters of America. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Victor R. Strakos, Jr., and her mother and father- in- law, Tom and Lillie Hajek. Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years, James Hajek; children, John Paul Hajek, Misty Holzer and husband Mark, Amanda Sykora and husband Chris, Chris Hajek and wife Lauryn, Justin Hajek and wife Lindsay; grandchildren, Holden, Hobbes, Hollis, Houston, Hopi, Hartley, Hayes, Evelyn, Kailyn, Keaton, and Keller; honorary granddaughter, Mavis; siblings, Janet Buchheit and husband Tom, Barbara Gates and husband Harry, Cindy Steffek and husband David, and Marie Tobola and husband Robert; aunt, Tillie Orean; sisters-in-law, Gerogie Chumchal and husband Milton, Mary Koennig, Lillie Hosek and husband Lawrence; brother-in-law, Thomas Hajek and wife Angie; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, other loving family members and many friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 beginning at 5 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary followed by the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek and Father Gregory J. Nevlud officiating. A reception will follow in the Parish hall. Private entombment will be held in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery at a later time. Cathy's greatest role in life was that of loving wife, mother, and Grammie!! She was loved by all and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church School, 510 S. Camp St., Seguin, Texas, 78155 or Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut Ave. New Braunfels, TX 78130.
