Obituary

Charles L. Wharton, age 98 of Seguin, passed away on August 26, 2016. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 30 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek and Rev. Gregory J. Nevlud officiating. Interment with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H U Wood Post 245 in Seguin will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Charles was born on July 2, 1918 in Laredo, Texas to Charles and Mary Maud (Lesterjette) Wharton. Charles served his country honorably in World War II in the United States Army Air Corps as an aviation mechanic. He retired from Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio after 33 years as an aircraft technician in Civil Service. Charles then went to work for Motorola in Seguin for 10 years. Charles was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3412 in Seguin, a member of the American Legion H U Wood Post 245 for over 33 years, as well as a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church. Charles was a family man who loved to spend time fishing, gardening, and doing board puzzles. He is preceded in death by his wives Genevieve Kuntz Wharton, and Tillie Wharton; son Charles Wharton; his parents; brothers Thomas Wharton, James Wharton, and Albert Wharton. Charles is survived by his son Richard Wharton; step-daughter Joyce Elliott and husband Robert; daughter-in-law Shirley Wharton; granddaughters Tammy Lynn Grothues and partner Frank Salas, Tracy Sprouse and husband Kenneth; grandson Tim Wharton and wife Gina; great-grandchildren Cody and Shelby Wharton, Kenneth Ray Sprouse, Joshua, Jeremy, and Nathan Grothues, Robert and Paul Teas; dear friend Santa Smith. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Wharton, Cody Wharton, Joshua Grothues, Nathan Grothues, Robert Teas, and Paul Teas. The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the Anna Bertling family, Paula Castillo, Kim Cruz, Kelly M., and Amy Rangel for their kindness and loving care for Tillie and Charles in their later years. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Library Fund at St. James Catholic School, 510 S. Camp Street, Seguin, TX 78155, or the Charity of Choice.
