Obituary

Clifton Edgar "Coonie" Haas, age 92 of Seguin, went home to be with the Lord on October 21, 2011 in San Antonio, TX . Coonie was born on December 25, 1918 in McQueeney, Texas, the 4th of six sons, born on to Frank & Alma Keil Haas. He graduated from Seguin High School in 1938 and enjoyed participating in all sports. He married Doris Reinshagen on June 27, 1941. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1941-1946 and flew 27 missions as a "belly-gunner" in the B-17 "Not Tonight Cleo". He was a life long member of Emanuel's Lutheran Church, a member of the American Legion H U Wood Post 245 and served on the Seguin Independent School District School Board for six years. Coonie is a Golden Lion member of the Seguin Noon Lions Club and honorably served as Secretary / Treasurer for 36 years. He retired from Acme Brick Company. He is preceded in death by his parents Frank & Alma Haas, brothers Albert, Henry, Edmund, and Bill Haas; son, Mark Steven Haas and son-in-law, Jack L. Dear. He is survived by his wife Doris Haas, daughter, Vickie Haas Hyatt Dear, Grandchildren, Jason Wayne Hyatt and wife Randi; Bobby J Hyatt and wife Alesia; James Dear and wife Tracy and Jennifer Dear; and nine Great Grandchildren - Alexis Hyatt, Coby Hyatt, Claire Dear, Jackson Dear, Lily Dear, Nathan Dear, Rylee Hyatt, Clifton W Hyatt and Hayden Hyatt; brother, Leroy Haas and wife Clara; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 26, 2011at 10:30 a.m. at Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin with The Rev. Paul J. Zwarich officiating. Interment with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion H U Wood Post 245 of Seguin will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Hyatt, Jason Hyatt, George Rehfeld, James Bartosch, Gary Haas, James Dear and Harry Dietz, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be the Seguin Noon Lions Club, American Legion H U Wood Post 245 and the Whataburger Coffee Bunch. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice or Emanuel's Lutheran Church, 206 N. Travis, Seguin, TX, 78155.
