Coy Wasta West was born to Eugene and LaVena (Speedling) Wasta on November 5, 1931 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She passed away August 21, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.
Coy attended California Fullerton State, University of Texas at Austin and was a graduate of Trinity University.
She was a teacher for thirty years for the San Antonio Independent School District. She taught at P.F. Stewart Elementary, Elma Neal Elementary, Will Rogers Elementary, Tafolla Middle School and Horace Mann Middle School.
Coy was a lifelong Republican and worked tirelessly for local, state and national candidates.
Coy was a member of Alamo City Republican Women, San Antonio Area Retired Teachers Association, and Texas Retired Teachers Association. She served as secretary of the San Antonio Tennis Foundation. She was also a member of the Will Rogers "Lunch Bunch."
Coy is survived by former husband, Thomas S. West, Jr., daughters, Jeanette West Hannasch, Kathy West Gallaspy and husband, Greg, Terri West Perkins and husband, Steve; Grandchildren Brianna Perkins, Sibyl Gallaspy, Donald Gallaspy, III, Nephews Jim McMackin and wife Tracey, Jeff and Judy McMackin, Joel McMackin and wife Tracy; and brother-in-law, James Davenport.
She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Audrea Davenport.
A "Celebration of Coy" will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 4 to 6 PM at The Village in Oak Hills Clubhouse, 4334 Muirfield Dr., San Antonio, Texas, 78229. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
