Obituary

Dagoberto “Roy” Raul Castillo Sr., Age 81 of Seguin, passed away January 28, 2026. Dagoberto was born on February 21, 1944, in Galveston, Texas to Alicia (Saldua) and Dagoberto Castillo.

Roy was a kind-hearted man who deeply loved his family and took great pride in introducing them to everyone he met. He was old-school in the best way, valuing family, love, and respect above all else. Roy was not only cherished by his immediate family but also by his nieces, nephews, many friends, and coworkers.

He worked at Kelly Air Force Base before beginning a long and dedicated career with SMI/CMC, where he spent more than 40 years. His work gave him the opportunity to travel to many places, including Arkansas, Alabama, overseas to Germany, France, Spain, Japan, and beyond.

Roy had many passions, especially golf, where he loved spending time out on the green. He also enjoyed baseball and playing pool. More than anything, Roy loved being around people. He never missed a chance to say hello, strike up a conversation, and make someone feel welcome. Roy will be deeply missed!

He is preceded in death by his mother, Alicia Saldua Polanco; father, Dagoberto Castillo; step-father, Narciso Palanco; brothers, Roland Castillo and Joe “Gigi” Polanco.

Roy is survived by his loving wife Mary Toni Castillo; daughter, Debbie Cantu (Arturo); son, Roy Castillo Jr.; sisters, Maria “Nena” Gonzales (Frank); Anna Boyer (Richard); brothers, Ricardo Castillo (Joan); David Castillo (Joyce) and Andrew Castillo; grandson, Christopher Urrutia (Norma); granddaughter, Brittany Cantu; great-grandchildren, Matthew Mendoza, Violett Casas, Tallon Casas and Taiden Harold Casas.
