Obituary

Rev. Darlene Barth Casteter Weidner, (retired), age 75, of New Berlin, passed away on April 3, 2015. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Seguin, with Rev. Andy Smith, Rev. Bill Knobles and Rev. Ron Welborn officiating. A reception will follow in the Christian Life Center. Private interment will be held later at the Lone Oak Cemetery in Geronimo. Darlene was born in Seguin Texas on August 24, 1939 to Richard and Delrose (Barth) Casteter. She was a 1957 graduate of Seguin High School, received her Bachelor's Degree in Music from Trinity University in 1979 and her Master's of Divinity from Boston University in 1993. She was a member of the San Antonio Master Singers traveling the world. She was ordained as a minister, having been a member of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church and served at Saint John United Methodist Church in Columbus Grove Ohio and then La Rue United Methodist Church in La Rue Ohio. She then retired to New Berlin Texas with her faithful pet companion "Petey", to be closer to her family. She continued to actively serve at First United Methodist Church in Seguin where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and provided ministry to the infirmed at the local nursing homes. She was preceded in death by her grandparents whom helped raise her, Marvin and Hilda Barth, her parents and her biological father, Cecil Leonard Purcell. Survivors include her children, Walter William Weidner and wife Eileen, Sharilyn Rose Weidner, Jonathan Karl Weidner and wife Chela, and Erick David Weidner; grandchildren, Quinton Weidner, Kalynn Sansom and fiancé, Mike Bressler, Colton Weidner, Nena Smith and Tristan Mancilla; siblings, Diane Griepentrog and husband Marv, Don Casteter and wife Susan, Lenny Purcell, Cheryl Kitsch and husband Michael, Ronald Purcell and Donald Purcell; step-mother, Bernice Purcell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 710 N. Austin, Seguin, Texas, 78155.
