THE Obituary of ALL Obituaries for the ONE and ONLY David Van Booven
After years of openly arguing on who the favorite child was of LeRoy and Bernice Van Booven the argument was settled when their eldest son, David Anthony Van Booven, was called to be the first one to Heaven with them on January 7th, 2019.
Gifted onto the world in Fayetteville, North Carolina on April 5th, 1960, David was full of life, a dry sense of humor and loyalty to his friends and family that is beyond measure. He conquered the ability to survive in a house of females for over two decades with humor, scientific questions of distraction in moments of tension and a ranch or deer lease that was only an hour or two drive away. It is said that he also single-handedly convinced bar owners to keep a continuous supply of Natural Light, as it IS what he would describe as "The Nectar of The Gods."
He was a fan of ZZ TOP, 70's rock and good ole Texas country music. He loved to spend Sunday afternoons at Gruene Hall listening to live music. He and Teresa would go down to what they considered to be their "happy place" in Rockport, Texas any chance they could get.
David followed in his father's footsteps not only by joining the Air Force at a young age, but also becoming a Master Electrician. He had an entrepreneurial spirit that included not only his electrical business, but an A/C business, woodworking, as well as the unique designs and development of the Lone Star Purple Martin Houses that were sold throughout the United States and Canada. While working full time at Continental for 30 years, he also made time to be involved in the community. A phenomenal coach of nine-pin bowling as well as founding member of the 1st chapter of TABC (Thursday. Afternoon. Beer. Club.)—he truly was a leader in his community.
David was a favorite of many and a stranger to none. He goes by many names, "Uncle Dave", "Brother Dave"," Big Wave Dave", "Local Hero", "Husband", "Dad", "Friend", "PePaw", but no matter who he ran across or what they called him, once you knew him you were family.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Gail Van Booven, who can only be described as a Saint sent down from God himself to love and care for those around her. The love they shared over their 33 years of marriage is what most consider the thing of fairytales and 80's romantic comedies. They had an unbreakable bond as best friends and sweethearts.
He is also survived by his favorite son Derek Van Booven, who also shares his passion for Natural Light, and wife Katie Van Booven along with their children Addie, Deacon and soon to come baby Carson; his oldest daughter, who can be described as nothing short of perfection, Samantha Van Booven, along with her daughter, Olivia; and in hopes of trying to replicate his first born daughter he had two more daughters, Devin Van Booven and Madison Worthy. Madison is joined by her husband, Austin Worthy and their daughter, Kaisley. David and Teresa loved family so much they just kept adding to include an adopted Van Booven sibling, Daniel Cardenas, and honorary Van Booven member Roland Sanchez.
David and Teresa very much wanted grandbabies to spoil and in the span of one year they were given three, warning to others—watch what you wish for. Along with his wife, children and grandchildren he is survived by his three sisters Sharon Frederickson, Ree Kaplan, Vanette Stephenson, and brother, Steve Van Booven along with their families and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Bernice Van Booven.
A short service will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday, January 12th, 2019 @ 2:00pm, with Rev. Msgr. Dennis Darilek and Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. Interment will follow in San Geronimo Cemetery, and in true David fashion, end with fun times, great stories and good people at Nolte Island. Pallbearers will be Joey Miller, Steve Richardson, Dusty Johnston, Steven "Bubba" Newman, Greg Johnson, Tyler Van Booven, Logan Van Booven and Zann Schriewer.
