Obituary

David Carl Lucky, age 56, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2009 near his home in Seguin, TX. David was born September 17, 1952 in El Paso to Tom and Dorothy Lucky and spent his formative years in El Paso and southern New Mexico before graduating from Eastwood High School in 1971. He played varsity basketball for two years and was named All-District while helping lead the team to a district co-championship in his senior year. The highlight of his varsity career was making a game-winning field goal as time expired to beat co-champion Austin High School in their own gym. He attended Texas Tech University where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was named the Outstanding Entomology Graduate that year. While at Tech, he met the love of his life, Mary Charpentier, to whom he remained married for 32 years until his death. David had a successful career in agriculture, working for both internationally known manufacturers and some of the largest farm cooperative companies in the country throughout the Southwest and in Corpus Christi where he resided for many years. His greatest success, however, which he shared with Mary, was in parenting three wonderful children. He is survived by Mary, and by their children: Capt. Brian David Lucky, USAF, of Las Vegas, NV; Carla Ruth Lucky Smith (her husband Clarence Smith) of Annapolis, Md.; and Cameron Scott Lucky of Lubbock, TX. David is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Morriss Lucky, his brother Jeffrey Thomas Lucky (his wife Pam and son Jared), all of El Paso; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends, all of whom will miss his remarkable wit, personal integrity and enduring honesty. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin, TX, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Chaplain Rhonda Robbins officiating. Interment will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery near Seguin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8517 or to the charity of one's choice.
