Diane Maria Garcia (Diane) entered into eternal life on Thursday December 4, 2014 at the young age of 55.
Most of those years (24 to be exact) were spent working at the Seguin Wal-Mart.
While there she worked in many areas of the store, gaining many friends and extended family members along the way. Her longest stint and most memorable position was undoubtedly that of the phone operator, where she held the keys to the kingdom and in her own words she was "the best damn phone operator Wal-Mart ever had" and on numerous occasions would say that they were just plain lucky that she showed up to work at all. In reality, she just had a great sense of humor when it came to her job and enjoyed sharing stories with her son about her "second family", which was her pet name for work.
Throughout her life she touched many people and created memories that will be forever ingrained in the hearts and minds of us all. Diane was indeed a beautiful soul so much so, that just being in her presence was an unforgettable blessing. She loved keeping dutiful notes on how to best manage her day. She always enjoyed organizing events within Wal-Mart and anytime she got the opportunity to do so, you could rest assured that she would pour in every ounce of passion and time she had into it.
She once organized a full-fledged fashion show complete with a runway to celebrate a new clothing line being carried in the store. She also spearheaded several Crawl-a-Thon's sponsored by Pampers®. No matter the range of events she participated in, her absolute favorite thing to organize was the Wal-Mart Float Committee for the "Freedom Fiesta" and "Christmas" Parades, which under her direction allowed the Wal-Mart Float to receive numerous (1st Place and Best In Show) Awards year after year.
If you were lucky enough to get to know Diane then you very well know that knowing her was a gift in itself. To some of you she might have been your adopted mom; to others an ally you could count on, and for the blessed few; she was a friend that would lend a friendly ear, a hug when you needed it, and a shoulder to cry on. Truth is there is no amount of words that could fully describe Diane, so we will not attempt to do that here. What we can do is remember her for all that she was and all that she is to us.
Here are a few things that are undoubtedly Diane:
"Anytime is a great time to bake." Just ask her son and he will say that his mom made an amazing Millionaire Pie, a Cheesecake better than Sarah Lee, and Enchilada Casserole that would have you craving for more. She never quit being a mom in fact she believed "It's always ok to buy your 30-year-old son Shirts, Socks, and Boxers, especially if they are on sale." According to her son she would on numerous occasions tell him that he was her favorite son, he would then remind her that he was her only son and she would uncannily respond in true Diane style with the simple statement: "Well then I guess you know its true"
In her lifetime, Diane was mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, and an unrelenting loving force to be reckoned with.
She is survived by her son Matthew, her mother Gloria, her sister Vicky and her three brothers Bennie, Ronnie and Ruben; her Nieces: Marissa, Veronica, Valerie, Vanessa, Abby, Arianna, Nina, and Alicia (May) Along with two of her nephews Oscar Jr. and AJ (Jay) and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. Diane is reunited with her father Benito, her stepdad Aurelio, and her brother Oscar.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel beginning at 4p.m. followed by funeral services at 6 p.m. with her loving family officiating.
Private interment will be held at a later date.
