Obituary

Donald Louis Carl Schraub, age 72 of Seguin, passed away on August 22, 2011. A memorial service celebrating Donald's life will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Anne Kolmeier and Pastor James "Jim" Witschorke officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date at Christ Lutheran of Elm Creek Cemetery. Donald was born on November 18, 1938 in La Vernia, Texas to Harry and Annie Koepp Schraub. He graduated from La Vernia High School as Valedictorian of his class. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas and his Master's Degree from Southwest Texas State (now Texas State University). As a young man, Donald began his working career with a paper route on a bicycle and later graduated to a motorcycle. He worked in education for numerous years, starting out as a teacher and later counselor. Following he became a beer distributor for both Pearl and Miller products. He proudly served as Guadalupe County Judge from 2003 to 2007. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Elm Creek and associate member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Marion. He was a 50 year mason with the Brahan Masonic Lodge #226 A.F. & A.M. in La Vernia, The Order of the Sons of Hermann and a former member of the Seguin Noon Lions Club. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harry Schraub, Jr., sister-in-law, Inez Schraub and niece, Terry Schraub. Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Gloria Mikolajczyk Schraub; son, Donald "D. L." Schraub, Jr. and wife Lisa; daughter, Shannon Turkewitz and husband Joel; step-sons, Dustin Erwin and fiancé Kristy Johnson, and Chad Erwin and wife Kristalle; sister, Vernell Richter and husband Paul; grandchildren, Cecelia and Sebastian Turkewitz; step-grandchildren, Jay, Kendall and Kasey Repka, Kearsen, Tak and Kahlan Erwin; his beloved dog, Gus; numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and numerous other family and friends. Donald and Gloria travelled throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. Donald loved adventure and sailed a boat called "The Journey" through the Caribbean. He loved hunting and outdoor sports. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed serving in his community. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
