Ginger was one of four girls born to Homer and Laura Bird of Stockdale, Wilson County, Texas on March 1, 1934. She and her sisters attended a two room school until the school was consolidated into the Stockdale Independent School District. She graduated from Stockdale High School in 1951 and attended The University of Houston. After graduation from there in 1959, she taught school in Houston until her retirement. She was married to the love of her life, Richard N. (Buddy) Davis, in August of 1954. Buddy died in 1985.

Ginger was very close to her family, especially her three sisters: Mary Jane Jonsson of Crystal City, Texas; Shirley Bird Perry of Austin, and Patsy Bird Weber, of New Braunfels. They visited often over the years and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company. Ginger was a kind and loving person who made many friends over her 82 years. She had a delightful and engaging smile. She was named the Stockdale Jubilee Watermelon Queen in 1952.

Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, Richard N. (Buddy) Davis, her parents, Homer and Laura Bird, brother, Edwin Homer Bird, and sisters, Shirley Bird Perry and Patsy Bird Weber.
