On September 16, 2014 at 9 p.m. after a valiant battle with cancer, Dorothy Faye Brieden Holguin joined her beloved parents and came into the presence of her Lord and Savior.
Born in Medina County - Devine, Texas on August 25, 1930, the second child of Henry Andrew and JoBailey (Jodie Adcock) Brieden, Dorothy grew up in Stockdale, Texas. Her first year of school was in Moore, Texas in 1936. Her family moved to Wilson County in 1937 where she attended school at Swift and at Alum. In 1942, they moved to Guadalupe County and Dorothy attended school at Dugger. After moving back to Wilson County in 1943, she completed her schooling and graduated from Stockdale in 1947 at age 16. She married Jack Wallace Holguin on December 7, 1948 and to this union, two children were born – Kevin Ross Holguin and Jackie Faye Holguin Bevill. She has two beloved granddaughters, Kristine Renee Holguin Williams and Jessica Erin Holguin.
A devoted wife and mother, Dorothy was married to Jack for 28 years and had two deeply loved children. They lived in Seguin where Kevin Ross was born on August 29, 1955 followed two years later on January 25, 1957 by Jackie Faye Holguin Bevill. During these years she worked for JC Penney beginning at their original downtown Seguin location up to their current location and ending her career there after 30 years of service.
A lover of nature, Dorothy enjoyed being outdoors especially parks. This enjoyment was enhanced by the family reunions. Fond of bird-watching, she derived great pleasure in notating the various birds that visited her home or at any outdoor event she attended. At times, there were bird feeders hanging from most every tree in her yard. Her love of gardening was handed down from her parents.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her older brother, Charles Andrew Brieden, of Seguin.
She is survived by her son, Kevin of San Antonio (wife, Rita and their two daughters, Kristine Renee Holguin Williams of Dallas (husband, Allen Williams) and Jessica Erin Holguin of Frisco; her daughter, Jackie of Houston (husband, Joey Bevill); sister, Evelyn of Seguin (husband, Calvin Pullin); sister, Virginia Ann of Stockdale (husband, Raymond Smithey); sister-in-law/widow of Charles, Jo Ann Brieden and extended family including numerous nephews and nieces.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children and family who rest in the assurance of our heavenly Father's love for her.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Calvin Pullin of Seguin and Raymond Smithey of Stockdale. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 10 AM at the Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin, Texas. A lunch reception will follow at the Walnut Street Church of Christ. Interment will be held at 2 PM at the Nockenut Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Walnut Street Church of Christ can be made in Dorothy's honor.
