Dorothy Lee "Dottie" Vogel Kallies, age 88 of Belmont, passed away on October 28, 2023. Dorothy was born on November 9, 1934, in New Braunfels, Texas to Virginia Margarite (Wagner) and Herbert Vogel.
Upon her mother's death at age 6, she was raised by her great-aunt Fannie Ellis and great-uncle Howell Ellis in eastern Guadalupe County. She attended Dowdy School until it closed, and then graduated from Seguin High School in 1953. In June 1953, she married Leslie "Pete" Kallies. They had three children: Mona, Basil, and Jeffery Kallies.
Dottie was a homemaker, teacher's aide, sales clerk at Williams Drug Store, and insurance agent for Hermann Sons Life, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, canning, baking, and making jellies as well as raising chickens, turkeys, and guinea hens. She was a 40-year breast cancer survivor.
Dottie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Leslie "Pete" Kallies, parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Frances Kallies, step-mother-in-law, Clara Kallies, great-aunt and great-uncle, grandparents, brother Herbert Vogel Jr. and wife Alma, and nephew Billy Wayne Vogel.
Survivors include her daughter, Mona Kallies Ulbricht and husband Walter; sons, Basil Kallies and wife Rebecca, and Jeffery Kallies; grandchildren, Melanie Stehling and husband Wesley, Megan Granzin and partner Baron Hahn, and Cameron Kallies and wife Augusta; great-grandchildren, Ashley Lane, Addison Donaho, Hayden Granzin, Wyatt Pete Kallies, Oliver Hahn, Carson Hahn, and Audrey Hahn; sister-in-law, Evelyn Neumann; nieces, Sandra Vogel and Nikki Vogel Wiggins; numerous other family and friends.
Visitation will begin on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 9 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. with Rev. Paul Smith and Rev. Clyde Bostick officiating. Interment will follow in the Belmont Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Belmont Community Center on Highway 90A.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cameron Kallies, Ashley Lane, Wesley Stehling, Baron Hahn, Danny Neumann, and Steven Neumann. Honorary pallbearers will be Edith Lange, Bill and Vernell Jones, Addison Donaho, Hayden Granzin, Brenda Schrank, Laura Major, and Kenneth Neumann.
