Douglas Clayton "Clay" Downs, age 62 of Seguin, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 8:30 am. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Jeremy Roy officiating. A reception will follow in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Private interment will be held at a later date. Clay was born on January 26, 1954 in Seguin Texas to James Olen and LaNelle Hoermann Downs. He graduated from Seguin High School, Class of 1973. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed family time, hunting and fishing, always providing opportunities and mentorship. He is loved dearly for the selfless life he shared with others, always putting other's needs before his own. He continued his father's legacy in ranching and the family business. He is preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents, James and Leena Downs of Smiley and his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Reatha Hoermann of Seguin. Survivors include his special friend, Debbie Lowe; his children, Clarie Bristow and husband Brandon, Cindy Jackson and husband Jimmy, Audra Fryar and husband Hondo, and Kelli Downs and special friend Wesley Greer; grandchildren, Tyler, Lane, Tenley, Kylie, Caleb, and Cade; mother, Nell Downs; brother, Jeff Downs and wife, Conee; sister, Codi Downs; his uncle, King Hoermann and wife, Karen; Debbie's children, Jennifer Crawford and husband, Steve, Timothy Engler, and Brooke Lingerfelt and husband Donald; Debbie's grandchildren, Jenna, Sydney, Trevor and Dylan; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and MANY friends. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, and Buggy Engelke, Russell Schriewer, Tim Engler, Bubba Kluth, Steve Crawford, Donald Lingerfelt, Bubba Engelke, Billy Hohertz, Mike Bading, and Rodger Koehler.
