Eddie B. Garcia, age 80 of Seguin, Texas passed away on September 1, 2011. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 11 to 5 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. George R. Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston, Texas National Cemetery. A reception will follow at the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245 Hall in Seguin, Texas. Eddie was born on November 14, 1930 in Columbus, Georgia to Eddie and Margaret Thomas Tanner, Eddie was the first of two daughters and graduated from Ratcliff High School, Columbus, Georgia. Eddie attended secretarial school and was employed as a secretary. Eddie met and married LTC James V. Garcia, relocated to Ft. Hood, Texas. Eddie accepted Christ March 6th, 1966 under the leadership of Pastor Jesus Garcia, baptized March 13th, 1966 at the Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Martinez, Texas. Upon her husbands retirement from the U.S Army they relocated to Seguin, Texas at which time she became a member of Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Seguin, Texas under the leadership of Pastor George R. Brown until her death. Eddie proudly served her community of Seguin, Texas as a member of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245 Auxiliary 26 years, Seguin Area Chamber Ambassador 17 ½ years, member Seguin Noon Lions Club, member Silver Center, member Elm Creek Extension Education Club, State TEEA 25 Years, VFW auxiliary 9213, Mc Queeney, Texas, supported the annual Wheelchair Patients Day Out and a member of RSVP. She is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, LTC James V. Garcia, USA (Retired); daughter, Regina Garcia; step-son, Rev. Oscar L. Barnes (Helen); Sister Alma Boyd (Mansel); sisters-in-law, Verlene Garcia Moore and Helen J. Hicks (Percy); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. In honoring Eddie B.'s memory, serving as pallbearers will be members of the American Legion H. U. Wood Post 245 and members of the Seguin Area Chamber Ambassadors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of her membership organizations.
