During his school days Edwin was noted for taking group photos of Navarro Elementary students and later of high school graduates and weddings. For one year, Edwin opened a concession stand to benefit the sports equipment by cooking hamburgers and serving the people at basketball games in the old cotton gin that was converted into a gym. He also had a concession stand at the old high school serving the students and teachers with cold drinks and candy. During Edwin's high school days he worked for Koebig Store in Geronimo. Edwin graduated twice from Navarro High School when the school increased their grade level. In 1952 he graduated from the eleventh grade and then in 1953 from the twelfth grade with the honor of being named Valedictorian. Growing up in a rural area, Edwin only had to walk across the road to attend his high school. On March 12, 1954, Edwin joined the Army where he trained at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. His assignment was to Fort Dix, New Jersey in the division of Army Anti-Aircraft Defense. Edwin was honorably discharged March 9, 1956. After the service, he attended the Travis County Vocational School where he trained as a welder. From welding school, he came home to open his business Edwin's Radio and Television Service. The Bading's converted a smokehouse into a washhouse and a repair shop. In his little shop, Edwin started out repairing watches then repairing radios and tube televisions. His business grew to repairing appliances to wiring homes. Edwin married Martha Carolyn Heinemeyer on November 10, 1962. First years they rented a home. Then three years later, they purchased a home in Geronimo, TX, where Edwin built a building and moved his repair shop, changing the name of his business to Edwin's Services. In 1974, Edwin built and opened Placid Metalcraft, Inc. west of Seguin, a metal fabrication business, where he retired as manager in 2004. Attending Friedens United Church of Christ, Edwin served as Sunday School Teacher, and represented the Youth Fellowship in 1958 in the Burning of the Church's Note. He served on the Church Council, being president and sang in the church choir. Edwin and Carolyn served as sponsors of the Youth Fellowship. Edwin was chairman of the organ committee and helped build the church sanctuary's eleven ranks organ with 738 German handmade pipes that are heard today. He also served on two church building projects: the Narthex and Activity Center. Edwin served twelve (12) years on the Navarro School Board. Edwin is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and two children Nathan and Kay; brother, Melvin and wife Virginia; two nephews, Roger and wife Marlu and Russell and wife Charla; brother-in-law, Ben Heinemeyer; three great-nephews and one great-niece; a host of cousins and many friends.
