Eleanor Ann Cruikshank Moore peacefully completed her life's journey at age 55 on October 16, 2012 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston surrounded by family and friends. She fought her battle against cancer with courage, dignity, grace, humor and tremendous spirit. She was supported by her family, old friends and the many new friends she made during her last year of life.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 during 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. A memorial service in celebration of Eleanor's life will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Patricia Riggins and The Rev. Kevin Dellaria officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service at McKeough Hall at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
Eleanor was born in Houston, Texas on October 18, 1956, the daughter of Robert J. Cruikshank and Ann Irving Cruikshank. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Houston in 1975. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Texas in 1979, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Eleanor met Christopher H. Moore while attending UT and they were married on July 24, 1982. Eleanor and Chris made their home in Seguin where Chris began his practice of law and where they brought up their children, son, Charles N. Moore and daughter, Emily A. Moore.
Eleanor was a homemaker, school teacher and finally a legal assistant working with her husband. She had a strong faith and was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where she served over the years as a Sunday School teacher, Christian Education Director and member of the Altar Guild. Eleanor was a past member and past president of the Tejas Literary Club.
Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She enjoyed traveling, exercising, reading and cooking. Eleanor was a good sport and indulged Chris's love of hiking. Eleanor was a huge college football fan, and spent many a Saturday cheering on her Texas Longhorns. She was an avid and skilled blackjack player. Eleanor loved her dog, Molly and Emily's dog, Camp. Eleanor was fun loving, vivacious and always had a smile for everyone. She had the uncommon ability to really listen to people and remember their interests and concerns. Eleanor had the gift for turning strangers into friends and friends into family.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her grandparents George and Eleanor Irving and Louis and Helene Cruikshank. She is survived by her husband, children, parents, brother George I. Cruikshank and wife Marly, parents-in-law, Fred J. Moore and Catherine T. Moore, brother-in-law, Jason N. Moore, and brother-in-law, Mark A. Moore and wife Kelly and their two children, Nick and Alex.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and other medical personnel who attended and supported Eleanor during her struggle. In particular, the family thanks Dr. William Wortham of San Antonio, the doctors, nurses and staff at Warm Springs Specialty Hospital in New Braunfels, and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Acute Palliative Care Unit of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Febe Tala, Tomy Salazar and Cindy Meza who provided Eleanor with many hours of love, care and comfort.
