Elizabeth (Betty) Catherine Magner (Metzger), age 85 of Seguin, Texas formerly of Quincy, Illinois, passed away on December 20, 2011 at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Gregory J. Nevlud officiating. Interment will take place later in Calvary Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois. Betty was born on April 27, 1926 in Quincy, Illinois, the only child of Arthur O. and Loretta M. Metzger (Steinbrecher). She attended St. Boniface Catholic Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School both in Quincy, Illinois. Betty was employed full time while in Quincy by the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and the State of Illinois. Betty married Louis R. Magner of Jacksonville, Illinois on August 27, 1949 at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy, Illinois. Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years Louis, sons, Dr. James A. Magner and his wife Dr. Glenda E. Pritchett of Woodbridge, Connecticut, and Jeffrey L. Magner, and his wife Mary P. Magner (Shanahan) of Sterling Heights, Michigan; five grandchildren, Erin E. Moriarty (Mike) of Kent, Connecticut, Carly M. Ketchum (Russ) of Irvine, California, Jeffrey P. Magner of Chicago, Illinois, Matthew J. Magner of Shelby, Michigan, and 2nd Lt USAF Michael L. Magner of Del Rio, Texas. Betty grew up, married, and raised her children in Quincy, Illinois, before moving to Seguin in 1976. Betty was a member of St. James Catholic Church and a long time member of the St. Ann's Circle and Church Women United. Betty's interests included playing in three bridge clubs and travel. She enjoyed traveling to many sites in the United States and overseas including Europe, The Holy Land, Russia, Egypt, China, and taking cruises. Betty recently attended the wedding of her granddaughter Carly in California. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ann's Circle or St. James Catholic Church and School, 510 S.
