Obituary

Dr. Elton Bohmann, age 94 of Seguin, died May 7, 2009 in Seguin, Texas. Visitation will be held at Tres Hewell Mortuary, Monday, May 11, 2009 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Jackson Auditorium on the campus of Texas Lutheran University with Rev. Paul J. Zwarich, Rev. Ann Svennungsen, Rev. Dr. Norman Beck and Rev. Dr. Carl Schoss officiating. A reception will follow in Hein Dining Hall at the University. Graveside services and interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Dr. Bohmann was born on May 16, 1914 in Denhawken, Texas to Charles and Annie Janssen Bohmann. He graduated from Stockdale High School and Sam Houston State College. He received his Masters of Accounting from Texas A & I and was also a Certified Public Accountant. He was a teacher, coach, and principal at Freer High School for twelve years, and he was a professor of Accounting at TLU from 1957-1987. He was presented the Academic Alumni Chair in 1969, 1970, and 1971. In 1975, former students and friends established a scholarship fund in his name. In 1978, he was named to fill the Jesse H. Jones Chair in Business Administration, which was the first academic chair at TLU. Upon retirement, students and friends of TLU established a Professorship in the business department in his name. He was presented the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by TLU in 2000. The San Antonio chapter of CPA's honored him with the Meritus Service Award in Education in 1983. After retirement, he held an accounting position at Guadalupe Valley Telephone Cooperative up until the age of 93. He was an active member of the Lions Club for 60 years, and a faithful member of Emanuel's Lutheran Church and the Men's Bible Class. Throughout his adult life, he enjoyed playing golf, gardening and solving brain games. He measured his success by his student's accomplishments and maintained decades' long relationships with them. He had an amazing memory, and loved to share the details of his rich life. He was devoted to his wife, Leta Pearl, for over 59 years. He cherished his children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he never forgot a birthday. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leta Pearl Bohmann, his son, John Reid Bohmann and his parents. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Debner and husband Gil; son, Robert Charles Bohmann and wife, Janet; sister, Esta Linnstaedter; grandchildren, Jerry Debner and wife, Lois, Scott Travis Bohmann and partner, Tony West, Kimberly Griffith and husband, Samuel, Tara Young and husband, Christopher, Jason Bohmann and wife, Rayna, David Bohmann and wife, Nina, Sarah Sanchez and husband, Alfred, Justin Bohmann, Michael Bohmann and wife, Nicole; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 niece and 1 nephew. When reminded of his many accomplishments, he always said "The Lord's been good to me". The family would like to thank all of his visitors and those who called or sent cards during his brief illness. The family would like send a special appreciation to Kristy and Larry Serold for their dedicated care.
