Lt. Cmdr. Elwood Gene Ellis, United States Navy (Ret.), age 89 of Seguin, passed away on April 11, 2016. A Funeral will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Dr. J. K. Minton officiating and military honors and masonic rites. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date. Gene was born on October 31, 1926 in Armington, IL to Clyde and Mabel (Williams) Ellis. Gene joined the United States Navy in 1944 where he proudly served his country in World War II in the Pacific theater, as well as the Korean War. He retired to work in civil service in 1971. Gene officially retired and moved to Seguin in 2000. Gene was a lifelong avid golfer, with 2 hole-in-one to his credit. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion as well as 60 year membership with the Mason's and Shriners. Gene is preceded in death by his parents and son Kent Ellis. He is survived by his children, Kirk Ellis and wife Brenda, Mike Ellis, Donna Ellis, and Sharon Ellis; grandchildren James Ellis Palomar, Robin Ellis, and Brandon Ellis; sister, Glenna Kuntzman; as well as numerous nieces, and nephews.
