Eric Jason Young was born in Houston, Texas on September 26, 1978, and quietly passed away on March 18, 2026, at the age of 47 in Austin, Texas.
One of the first things anyone who met Eric would notice and comment on was his big smile and laugh. Eric’s smile would encompass his whole face, and he loved to laugh. Attending a movie with Eric was usually more entertaining than the movie itself because his laughter would echo through the theater, even if no one else in the theater was laughing. He had a sharp wit and could always be counted on to provide entertaining commentary.
He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, dog dad, and friend who was loyal with a personality that filled a room. He had nine siblings, and he loved his family. He would never hesitate to drop whatever he was doing to help them when they needed him, even if it meant picking up a group of his siblings stranded on the side of an icy freeway before he had even gotten out of bed or picking up a homesick sibling at college and letting them spend time with him at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah without question. Eric was a master gift giver. He took time to thoughtfully consider each person individually so he could find a gift unique for that person.
He loved being an uncle to his nieces and nephew, and they all loved their Uncle Eric. He did not hesitate to cram his 6’3” frame into a child sized ball pit to play with his niece or haul his nephew around on his back while he squealed with delight. He spent his niece’s first birthday party sitting at a bucket of ice while she loaded his mouth full of ice cubes and giggled with glee.
Eric adopted Peter Barker, aka Spidey, in 2015, and the two became an inseparable pair. Spidey was fiercely loyal to Eric and could often be found perched on his shoulder. Eric loved Spidey through 222 pages of medical records and was always ready to share Spidey updates.
Eric’s signature style in high school included a collection of Star Wars shirts and a green knit hat. His style evolved over the years, but it always included a pair of converse and a dapper hat. Eric loved Star Wars, Spider Man, and Transformers and shared that love with others. It was not wise to go up against Eric in a pub-quiz because his knowledge was expansive, and he holds the record for the most single-player pub quiz wins at his favorite quiz location.
Eric was raised in Kingwood, Texas and graduated from Kingwood High School in 1997 and then went on to attend Brigham Young University. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Russia, Moscow South Mission. Eric was creative and funneled that creativity into his role as a Marketing Manager on the Marketing Production team at Ancestry where he worked for 8 years and was well respected by his peers.
He is survived by his parents Douglas and Elaine Young, nine siblings, three in-laws, two nieces, and one nephew who will miss him greatly.
A funeral service will be held in his honor on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:00 am at the chapel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Seguin, Texas (111 East College Street).
