Ethel Knodel, age 87 of Seguin, passed away on July 17, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Cross Church with Rev. Jim Price officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date at San Geronimo Cemetery. Ethel was born on June 28, 1929 in Guadalupe County, to Samuel and Mary (Johnson) Butler. Ethel graduated from Dowdy School where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Paul "the Dowdy Flash" Knodel. During World War II, Ethel was crowned Queen of Guadalupe County War Bond Campaign. A happy and sharp witted woman, Ethel worked as a clerk at Donegan Insurance Agency, but her passion was her family. She excelled in the kitchen, and was known especially for her macaroni & cheese, and chili on mashed potatoes. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Paul; her parents; son Randall Clay "Randy" Knodel; siblings Sam Butler, Frances Dolle, Lorene Nitsch, and Dorothy Bode. Ethel is survived by her daughter Penny Wallace and husband John; grandsons Robert Wallace and wife Lauren, and Brian Wallace; great-grandchildren Caroline, Jackson, and Luke Wallace; sister Marie Hauft, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
