Obituary

Eugene H. "Gene" Brawner, age 88 of Seguin, passed away on November 11, 2016. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Smith, Rev. Ron Welborn and Rev. Bill Knobles officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Private interment will be held in Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Gene was born on October 25, 1928 in Guadalupe County to Samuel Pryor and Mary Emelia (Mondin) Brawner. He attended Dowdy School during his youth and graduated from Seguin High School in 1946. He attended Texas Lutheran College and then Southwest Texas State University from which he graduated with a business degree. Gene served as the President of School Board of Seguin Independent School District and was active in the Rotary Club and other civic affairs. Gene's greatest passion and legacy was his family and friends. He was a loving dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a loyal friend to persons from all walks of life. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Anne Brawner, his parents, and his brothers, Edward Brawner and Lester Brawner and his nephew Sam Brawner. He is survived by his children, Mary Anne Barnett and husband Byron, Tom Brawner, Nancy Bush and husband Dave, and Jeff Brawner and wife Pam; grandchildren, Erin, Daniel and Jenna Barnett, Drew Brawner, Kendall Kirchner and husband Korey, Stephen and Hannah Bush, and Katie, Sarah and Meg Brawner; great-grandchildren, Madison and Cooper; brother, Bruce Brawner and wife Lexie; sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Brawner, Delores Brawner, and Dotsy Beauchamp; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and a host of friends. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Stan McKenzie, Charlie Koehler, Syd Bauer, Clyde Selig, Emmett Donegan, Kenneth Tiemann and Clarence Little. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Seguin, 710 N. Austin St., Seguin, Texas, 78155 or charity of one's choice.
