Florentino C. Gutierrez Jr. also known as "Chico" passed peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2016 with his children by his side at the age of 86. He was born on December 8, 1929 in New Braunfels, Texas to Florentino and Josefa Gutierrez.
He married the love of his life Eva in 1952. For 63 years, they raised 7 children and shared a life of faith, family and love. Chico was a true family man; he enjoyed being a father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved visiting with family and friends sharing stories and telling jokes. He also loved music, keeping up with politics and current events.
He was passionate about carpentry and at the age of 15 began to learn from Mr. John C. Pape. He continued working at Alamo Lumber, Ted Henderson Construction, Schussler Lumber & Building, Crump Lumber and the Koehler Company. His love for the business inspired him to start his own, Gutierrez Construction Co. in 1973.
He was caring, funny, loving and most of all loyal and will be dearly missed.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Irma (Tom), Delia, Eva Marie (Frank), and son Carlos "Charlie" (Cindy). Grandchildren, Deandra (Daniel), Robert "Bobby", Connor, Miranda, Callie, Carly and Great-Grandson Matthew.
He is survived by brothers, Delfino Gutierrez and Saturnino Gutierrez (Maria Anna). Sisters, Gloria Baez, Antolina DeLaCruz, Guadalupe Maria Cervantes (Mike), Rosaura Martinez (Steve) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Eva, sons John, Joseph and Roberto "Bobby" Gutierrez and son-in-law Rick Gonzales.
Visitation will be held Friday August 19, 2016 at Tres Hewell Mortuary from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. with Deacon Nick Carrillo officiating. A procession will depart Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel at 8:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandson Bobby Gutierrez, nephews Jaime Gutierrez, Santiago Gutierrez, Jr., Javier Gutierrez, John Berry Gutierrez, Michael Gutierrez and honorary Daniel Vega.
