Frances Lena Bartels, age 91, of Seguin died peacefully on September 27, 2008. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 from 3 to 7 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Friedens United Church of Christ with Rev. John Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Lone Oak Cemetery. Frances was born on November 27, 1916 in Seguin, Texas. She lived in the family home for approximately 85 years. She died at her home at the Seguin Assisted Living. Frances worked in the tax office of the Guadalupe county court House and later at Sears Roebuck in Seguin for over 30years. Frances was a person who truly valued family. She also valued friendships and developed many over the years of life. That was evident by her number of visitors that valued her friendship as well. She graduated from Seguin High School and Texas Lutheran College. Frances was a life long member of Friedens United Church of Christ and supported both the college and her church all her life. She was a benevolent person in many ways. She loved animals, especially dogs and horses. In her later days, she enjoyed watching "Animal Planet" on television and always enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Harry Robert and Lena Bauer Bartels and her brother, Walton H. Bartels. Frances is survived by her sister, Mary Lee Schmidt and sister-in-law, Josephine Bartels; Though having no children of her own, "Aunt Frances" enjoyed a very special and individual relationship with each of her nieces and nephews who survive her; she was another mother, confidant and friend: nieces, Sharon Koebig and husband, Alfred and Bonnie Bartels; three nephews, Ron Schmidt and wife, Janie, Harry Schmidt and Dr. George Bartels; great-nephews, Hilton Koebig, Trevor Koebig and Bradley Bartels; great-niece, Elizabeth Bartels; good friend, Lydia Arriola and her beloved dog, Tiny. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Raetzsch and his staff for years of care and Karen Taylor and all at the Seguin Assisted Living. Also thanks to the caretakers in her final days which include Regina Lee, Gloria Castellon, Patty Laing, Rose Valdez and Roxanne Edwards and the staff of Hope Hospice.
