Frances Marlene Hayes Coody, 72, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 in New Braunfels, Texas. Originally from Meridian, Mississippi, she married Doyle Wesley Coody, Jr. who was captivated by her 55 years ago in Beaumont, Texas. Together, they started and ran a business, raised three children and suffered the slings and arrows of life together, eventually settling in Seguin. A daughter of the South and a Baptist preacher, Frances was an exceptional beauty throughout her life, and though petite in stature, commanded every room. Her charm and wit were matched only by her outsized love for her children and grandchildren, for whom she lived. She also loved animals and stray children, taking both in freely and providing love and nourishment equally. From here forward, all fried chicken and banana pudding in the world will be but a pale facsimile of that prepared by her. Frances is preceded in death by her mother and father, Woodrow and Mallie Hayes and her son, Daniel Shawn Coody. She is survived by her husband, Doyle W. Coody, Jr.; her children, Lisa Kokenes and her husband Mark; Tess Coody-Anders and her husband Heath; and her son, Doyle Wesley Coody, III; her grandchildren, Dustin Kokenes and his wife, Angela, Jesse, Caleb and Daniel Kokenes; and Aidan, Brendan and Kieran Anders as well as her great-grandchildren Kayleigh and Landon Kokenes; her brother Jimmy Hayes and his wife Ann; numerous nieces and nephews and of course, Fiona, her diva basset hound. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at McAdoo's Seafood Company in New Braunfels Texas from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates your support of the Guadalupe County Humane Society, P. O. Box 1593, Seguin, Texas, 78155-1593 or to the Paws in Prison, 1400 Industrial Boulevard, Lockhart, TX 78644. Alternatively, those with a sense of humor may wish to support Revlon Cosmetics and purchase a tube of Coral Flip lipstick, as sales of this color will now drop precipitously.
