Frank D. Bird, age 82 of Marion, went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2025. Frank was born on November 19, 1942 in Manhattan, New York to Virginia (Graham) and Francis Duncan Bird, Sr.
Frank grew up in Montana and then attended college in North Carolina. He then took an artistic journey through Spain visiting many places. After, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served on two different aircraft carriers during the Vietnam War.
Frank will be remembered as a longtime artist in the pottery field. He was honored to study under the world-famous potter, Tom Mason. Frank served as an artist in residence, for the National Endowment for the Arts, in Wilson, North Carolina. In 1976 the family moved from Charlotte, North Carolina to Marion, Texas where he continued his artistry.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Susy Bird; son, Ian Graham Bird and wife Sheila; brother, Geoffrey Bird; brothers-in-law, Barry Greco and wife Coit and Steve Greco and wife Rose; several nieces, nephews, other loving family members and a host of friends.
A private memorial service celebrating Frank's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
