Obituary

Fred O. Schaker, Jr., beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to see his Lord on September 19, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at his home on Lake McQueeney. He was born in Staten Island, NY on January 13, 1926. After high school graduation he served in the US Army in The Pacific Theater during WWII. Fred was on the Battleship USS Missouri and witnessed the signing of the Japanese surrender. A long-time resident in San Antonio, Fred and his bride Gloria, retired to Lake McQueeney in the late 70s where they continued to share their 60 years of marriage in their lakeside home designed and built by Fred. Fred was a man of true entrepreneurial spirit who succeeded in a wide variety of business ventures. Fred was active in his church at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and especially enjoyed serving "First Fridays". Because he enjoyed working with his hands, he constantly had several projects underway. He was always able to figure out a solution to even the most challenging problems. Fred never met a stranger. His colorful personality impacted everyone he encountered. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Fred, Sr. and Rose Schaker, wife Gloria, son Chris and grandson Nick. He is survived by his sister Shirley Grossman, two daughters Theresa DeFrain and husband Jim, Mary Enfield and husband Dwight, two sons George Schaker and wife Julie, Tony Schaker and wife Karen, numerous grand and great-grand children, relatives and cherished friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 23rd from 3 followed by the recitation on the rosary at 6:30 pm. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, September 24th at 10am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 409 West Krezdorn, Seguin, TX with interment to follow at San Geronimo Cemetery, Seguin, TX. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
